Your German number stays with you, wherever you live.
Your number stays yours, texts to your number, including banking codes (TANs), land in the app, and calls cost no roaming because they run over Wi-Fi or data.

You knew Expat Connect?
Expat Connect is now part of Phonestar. What you used there (German number, app, texts) you now use here – same number, same access, sign-in in the customer portal.
What goes wrong abroad

- The parked number is gone
- The prepaid card in the drawer gets switched off because nobody topped it up. The warning went by text to a phone nobody switched on, and at some point the number goes to someone else.
- The TAN does not arrive
- Logging in to online banking fails because the text never reaches the foreign SIM. Your bank, the authorities and many accounts are tied to your German mobile number.
- Roaming with catches
- Outside the EU every call gets expensive, and even inside the EU your operator may add surcharges after a few months abroad.
- Messengers are not enough
- Banks and authorities do not call messenger accounts, they call a phone number. And some countries block voice calls over messengers.
Why not just a second SIM card?
Many people patch their reachability together from old contracts, prepaid cards and messengers. Phonestar replaces that with one app and one number.
Without Phonestar
- A prepaid card in a drawer that expires
- A second phone for the German SIM
- The TAN only arrives with roaming
- Roaming clauses in the small print
With Phonestar
- The number is tied to the contract and stays
- One app on the phone you already carry
- TAN texts in the app, over Wi-Fi or data
- No location check, no time limit, cancel monthly

Scan the QR code with Phonestar Connect, and your number is on your phone. You install the eSIM in the app with one tap.
What expats need in particular

- Several numbers in one app
- Calling is not tied to a SIM card. That is why you can use several German mobile and landline numbers in the same app.
- Your old number comes along
- We take over your existing mobile or landline number, with no porting fee. For mobile numbers we file one application per number.
- Local number with proof of location
- A landline number from your former local area is available if you can show a location there.
- Mobile data abroad
- Data for the road is booked as an eSIM in the same app, with no second provider.

Add mobile data
For the country you live in or your next trip: buy eSIM data packages individually in the shop or conveniently in the app when you need them. The app shows validity and usage, and you top up there.

All services and prices in detailFrequently asked questions
Yes. Your Phonestar number is a real German mobile number, not a landline or special-rate number. Texts to that number land in the app wherever you are: codes from banks, payment services, government portals and online accounts, as well as personal messages. Whether a particular service sends texts to your number is up to that service.
Yes. You have an ordinary German mobile number that authorities, doctors and insurers call like any other number. The other way round, you call them on the flat rate to all German networks, with no international charge.
Phonestar calls run over an ordinary data connection; whether a country throttles that connection is something we cannot guarantee. Your number is a real phone number, not a messenger account; how well calls get through depends on the local network.
As long as the number is still active, yes: we bring it over to Phonestar, with no porting fee. Once it has been switched off, even your old provider usually cannot release it any more. So do not wait for the last warning text.
Nothing. Our system checks neither where you are nor how long you have been abroad. Your number stays as long as your contract runs.
As many as you need. Calls run through the app, not a SIM card, so you are not limited to two numbers. One German mobile number is included in the plan; each further one costs {preis:299} a month.
